Jenkins elected
to ABA Board of Governors

W. Anthony Jenkins of Detroit was elected to serve on the American Bar
Association’s Board of Governors at the 2008 ABA Meeting in New
York City in early August. He will be one of 40 representatives who oversee
the administration and management of the association. The ABA works to
improve the administration of justice, assists lawyers and judges in
their work, provides continuing legal education, and builds public understanding
about the rule of law.
Jenkins’ new duties as a member of the ABA Board of Governors will
include serving as a member of the Finance Committee and serving as board
liaison to the Standing Committee on Federal Judiciary, the Committee
on Racial and Ethnic Diversity, and the Standing Committee on Client
Protection.
Jenkins is secretary of the State Bar of Michigan Board of Commissioners.
He is a member of Dickinson Wright PLLC, where his practice areas include
real estate, public finance/municipal, general corporate, and entertainment
law.
Jenkins has been an active member of the ABA House of Delegates, serving
as the Michigan delegate for the past nine years. He currently sits on
the ABA Standing Committee on Judicial Independence and is the past chair
of the ABA Standing Committee on Group and Prepaid Legal Services.
A former president of the Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association, Jenkins
has served as legal counsel to Wayne County in connection with the financing
and development of the Pinnacle Park Race Track and to the City of Detroit
Downtown Development Authority in connection with the financing and the
development of Comerica Park and Ford Field. Jenkins is a former member
of the City of Detroit Board of Police Commissioners, the Board of Directors
of the Detroit Institute of Arts, and the Detroit Elected Officials Compensation
Commission.
Jenkins received his law degree from New York University in 1980 and
a Masters in Public Affairs from Princeton University in 1979. He received
his undergraduate degree in 1974 from Harvard University. |
